Dandy - The New York Yankee Mascot

The New York Yankee Mascot

Welcome! This is a page dedicated to Dandy. Who?

Dandy was the unsung mascot for The New York Yankees, the winningest, most storied professional sports franchise in the world. He made his debut in the summer of 1979, but has gone unrecognized by the team since his disappearance in 1981. Why? What happened to him? I know the elusive answers to these questions and many more, because I was Dandy. That’s right. Dandy’s story has never been fully revealed until now.

I have written a book about Dandy and I’m excited to bring his story to a larger audience. I call it, The Invisible Yankee – The untold story of The New York Yankees forgotten mascot. If you are interested to know when and where you can purchase a copy of this little known kernel of Yankees history, this is the place to do it. I assure you that your information is safe with me and for the sole purpose of keeping you informed about Dandy.

Here you will be able to view a selection of never-before-seen photographs of Dandy that my brother, Madison Ford, co-founder of Midcoast Studio in Detroit, MI shot while we were down on the old Yankee Stadium Field in August of 1979. You will also be able to stop into the Signature Gallery to view a one-of-a-kind poster from the “Name the Mascot” contest signed by six Hall of Famers, a number of famous Yankees and few surprises that you will not recognize but might find interesting. Click on the names and travel to their fascinating stories while listening to Yankees organist, Eddie Layton play a fan favorite.

ESPN’s newsmagazine show, E:60 completed its first-ever program on Dandy. The Forgotten Yankee debuted to a global audience on June 24, 2018 and has now become a viral sensation. PIX 11 has just completed a wonderful segment on Dandy that debuted on July 4th, 2019. It can be viewed on the Links page under The Yankee Mascot heading.
